has been president of Vitis Research for 15 years, and has been involved in state of the art winemaking processes throughout his career. During that time he has designed valuable products and techniques currently used in commercial winemaking and these products and processes have produced award winning wines.

He has been a professional winemaker for over 20 years, starting in California and is now residing in Pennslyvania. Over the course of his career he has owned his own winery, been research enologist at Fresno State University, wrote articles for industry magazines such as Wine East, Vineyard and Winery Management, and Practical Winery and Vineyard.

In addition to these activities, Dr. Carey judges wines in many national and international wine competitions each year. These have included The San Diego National Wine Competition, The Pacific Rim International Wine Competition, The International Eastern Wine Competition, The Indy International Wine Competiton, The Fingerlakes International Wine Competition and many more. He travels nationally and internationally to keep up with the latest techniques and equipment used in winemaking today.
